Everyone associates the desert with sand dunes stretching to the edge of the horizon, but it is hard to be more misconstrued. The Gobi, the second largest desert in the world after Sachara, consists of dry steppes, gravel-rock semi-deserts, deserts and even high mountains. I was looking forward to visiting Bajandzag, where dinosaur bones and eggs were found, but I was most enchanted by the picturesque dunes of Chongoryn Els.
